In 1983 – 25 years ago – Klaus Holzkamp’s main work Grundlegung der Psychologie [Foundations of Psychology] was published. On this occasion, this essay reviews the historical and cultural situation in which the book appeared and the role of Holzkamp as activist of the 1968 movement in Berlin and within German psychology as well as leading theoretician of German Critical Psychology. The book is situated against the backdrop of recent theoretical developments in the field of alternative Psychology and the Social Sciences, as well as in respect to historically simultaneous and earlier ideas in psychology and philosophy which have received only little attention, especially in the discussion of the Grundlegung’s central themes subjectivity and meaning.Downloads
