Abstract

Societal understanding is not a monolithic block but an internally differentiated phenomenon. In this sense different developmental lines are presented and discussed. The domains of history, morals, law, economy, and politics are considered thereby. Alongside domain-specific developments also aspects encompassing the different domains are identified. Attempts to clarify the term societal understanding and remarks on educational efforts frame the text.
