Abstract

This paper is dedicated to aspects of a successful identity of executives in their last few years before retirement in a changing organisation. It examines the practices which contribute to satisfy the human needs at work or those which rather lead to the suffering short before retirement in re-organisational processes. First precedence will be given to the conceptual considerations, and a methodological frame for a qualitative discussion of a case study will be set. In the main part, the example of an executive in a changing organisation will be introduced. Accompanied by a research project stretching over several years, exemplary stages of experience taken from interviews can be demonstrated and discussed with the consequences of work experience on identity in mind. A summary leads to recommendations for organisational practices for management as well as each executive individually. Additionally theoretical considerations, conducted with respect to the example, round up this article.
