Abstract

The concepts of recognition and appreciation are gaining importance in daily business and in the realm of scientific discussion. This can be observed, both through the rising number of publications that are dealing with these topics, and through the increased attention devoted by practitioners. Firms now are likely to face the situation of being judged based on the seriousness with which they handle these issues. The accurate handling of recognition, appreciation and criticism demands the establishment of a management culture based on recognition, in which appreciation and criticism can be used as an instrument for motivation and behavioral control. To do so, it is of utmost importance, to handle appreciation and criticism based on the requirements of each specific situation. This demands high standards in the qualification and education of modern managers.
