How Questions about Normality can arise from Abnormality – Reflections on Traumatisation and its contexts
Keywords:
Trauma, traumatisation, normality, context of trauma, PTSD, social psychology, essayAbstract
This essay gives an overview of specific aspects of trauma and its contexts. Traumatisation never happens in vacuum. It has to be embedded into larger (individual and collective) perspectives to fully encompass its meaning and significance. Various subjective mechanisms and processes have an influence on individual patterns of appraisal and evaluation, which makes an overall definition of trauma impossible. Sufficient ways to deal with these diversities have to be found in the use of language, taxonomy, prevention, support and treatment concerning trauma.Downloads
